SELECTION PROCEDURE

All submitted applications for the Tsuzuki International Scholarship program will further be reviewed by the selection committee of Fukuoka Daiichi High School. Short-listed candidates may be interviewed by the committee. Interviews will be mainly conducted in English with few questions in Japanese. Although prior knowledge of Japanese is not required for the program, the school will generally select a group of students whose aptitude is roughly similar for any given scholarship year. Accordingly, there may be a test to determine their level of familiarity with the Japanese language.

In the selection of the candidates, consideration will be given to their linguistic aptitude, as well as their ability to benefit from and contribute to the purpose of the program. Candidates should have good personalities with generous natures, personal warmth and adaptability as well as excellent academic record.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Upon acceptance to the program, all students are required to obtain their passport as soon as possible if they have not done so already.

Approximately one month upon receipt of all of the above documents from each student, the school will send an Admissions Certificate and a Certificate of Eligibility, to their home address as indicated on the application form.  These forms must be taken to the Japanese Consulate nearest to the students home for the student visa to be issued.  Processing time can take anywhere from 3-10 days.

The school will also advise each student of their date of arrival and complete all required travel arrangements.  All students will be met by a school representative upon their arrival to Fukuoka who will assist them with their transfer to the Guest House/Troubador.

SECURITY DEPOSIT

Security deposit of 50,000 yen will be collected from each student upon their arrival to the school.  This deposit will be used by the school to cover various costs such as that of breakage, administrative fees and emergency expenses which the student is unable to fund privately.  The usage of the deposit will be determined by the school; accordingly these funds will not be available to students for their private use.  Parents will receive a periodic statement of the expenditures, at which time they will be requested to send payment to maintain the 50,000 yen balance.  Any remaining amount from the deposit will be returned to each student at the conclusion of their scholarship year.

MEDICAL INSURANCE REQUIREMENT

Students are personally responsible for all health related costs during the entire duration of the exchange program.  Fukuoka Daiichi High School will not be held responsible for any health related injuries and accidents although the school will take all possible measures to assist the student in such cases.  Accidental death and medical insurance whose coverage extends overseas is required for all students before gaining admittance to the program.  Proof of insurance will be required from each student upon their arrival to the school.
